Yale University is dedicated to developing leaders from all sectors of society and all regions of the globe. To that end, the university created the Yale Leadership Center in Beijing, complete with cutting-edge Crestron technology to help students and faculty reach their full potential.
Apart from providing offices for individual Yale faculty members who visit Beijing for research, the 16,500 square-foot Yale Center, located in Beijing`s Chaoyang District, is designed to host conferences, workshops and other events developed by the university, such as the recent major symposium, “Icons and Enclaves: New Architecture and patterns of Urban Development in China.”
A central tenet of the Yale Center Beijing mission is a commitment to the efficient use of energy and resources. While designing the building, they realized the need for a technology partner that was able to support the state-of-the-art meeting and collaboration needs of the center as well as to proactively drive energy-savings.
New Benchmark in Control System Technology
Facing these challenges, the Yale Center Beijing hired Beijing SolvertechCo.Ltd. As the system integrator. With meetings, conferences, and symposiums, as well as distance teaching, expected to occupy most of the rooms in the center on a daily basis. Solvertech recommended Crestron technology. With more than four decades of experience and expertise controlling state-of-the-art academic environments, Crestron was the only technology provider able to offer a total building solution that met the rigorous needs of the center.
A Crestron 3-Series Control System is at the center of the Yale Center system, enabling administrators to network manage, and control the whole modern academic facility on a single IP-based platform. Thanks to its immense power and incredible range of integrated control options, the Crestron control system faithfully handles everyhging from raising and lowering projection screens, to signal switching via a DigitalMedia matrix, to controlling lights and shades. Faculty and scholars can take control with ease from the Crestron touch screens installed in every room. In fact, a conference host can enter the room and begin presenting with just the press of a button.
Ultra Energy Saving
In addition to controlling world-class presentation spaces.Crestron is working in the background to save energy. Lowering costs and prolonging the life-span of valuable equipment. Thanks to high-performance Crestron thermostats, occupancy sensors, and photo sensors, the system measures real time environmental data and automaticaly adjusts lights, shades, and temperature settings. For instance, if an occupancy sensor indicates a room is empty, the lights are automatically turned off. If there is strong daylight in a room, the light sensor signals the system to dim the lights. The whole process is automated to ensure little to no energy is wasted.
Cost-effective and Exceptional Flexibility
On a typical day at the Yale Leadership Center in Beijing, hundreds of hours of uncompressed HD video and audio signals are used and switched from room to room. To handle the load, the center relies on cost-effective DigitalMedia matrix switchers, which allow ultra-fast digital video and audio switching, and lossless HD multi-room signal distribution, for all types of AV sources. The switchers handle full HD 1080p and up to 4K video signals as well as the simultaneous distribution of stereo and multichannel surround sound signals. Crestron switchers provides a true one-wire lossless transport for moving high-definition video, audio, Ethernet, and control signals over a fiber optics. What`s more, with the AV infrastructure on the network, the center has the flexibility to add new rooms and presentation systems with ease, with little to no programming required.
Phenomenal Technology Supporting a Great Mission
“The intelligent Crestron system in the Yale Leadership Center in Beijing ensures productive sessions and academic exchange. It is easy to operate, totally reliable, and uses resources with great efficiency,” said Law Jianfeng, General Manager of BeijignSolvertechCo.Ltd. Students and faculty now have a robust home facility to support them as they work on smart solutions for big global issues. Behind the scenes, Crestron technology plays a critical role in creating an important new generation of leaders.
